Somsel Shines at MWA Classic (6/17/09)
Jesse Somsel was chosen to compete at the
2nd Annual MWA Classic, an event to showcase graduating seniors
and honor them for their accomplishments. Jesse had the
opportunity to wrestle Dylan Smith of Oxford the Division 2
State Champion. The two wrestlers battled during the season,
with Somsel grabbing a very close decision. This time Jesse
would leave no doubt in minds of the fans, as he dominated Smith
before gaining the fall at 4:38.
Chubbs
Preping for High School (6/21/09)
Jared Johnson recently competed in the
Northern Exposure Duals, held at St. Ignace MI. Jared competed
the first day of the tournament in the middle school division
and in the high school division on the second day of the
tournament. He compiled a combined record of 10-1 on the
weekend, losing (6-4) to Paul Beck of Mishawaca High School in
Indiana. Jared's team "Flat River WC" won the middle school
division and finished 5th in the high school division
Lowell Duals Matches Underway (6/25/09)
Several of our wrestlers have been
competing at the Lowell Summer Duals on Thursday nights this
June. Last weeks action was highlighted by Zach Banaszak’s
stellar performance in a win against West Ottawa’s Steve
McClure. Other great matches were turned in by Tyler Van Rooyen,
Bruce Carlstrom, Drew Scoggs, Tyler Johnson, Jake Banaszak,
Cullen Maksimowski and Brian Ellis. The next competition will be
Thursday July 9th at Lowell’s Cherry Creek Middle
School. If you are interested in picking up some matches contact
Coach Richardson, or just meet us at the RHS athletic entrance
at 4:30 to carpool over.
Rams
Magical at Disney (6/27/09)
Five Rockford Rams were selected on
all-star teams to represent Michigan in the AAU Scholastic
Duals, also known as the Disney Duals. The duals were made-up
of 38 all-star teams from across the country, including state
wrestling powers: Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Iowa, Ohio, Illinois
and Florida. Representing "Michigan Red" were Jake Byers, Jake
Dorulla, Joe Stefanski, and Jesse Somsel. Jake Johnson was
chosen to represent "Michigan Freeze". The Rockford wrestlers
were very impressive all week, as they knocked off state
champions and ranked wrestlers on a regular basis. The
experience of competing on this level during the summer will pay
big dividends in the winter. Michigan Freeze finished as
National Runner-up, while Michigan Red finished 7th
respectively. Congrats to the wrestlers on such a great showing!
